Movie scene that was memorable to me

I have many favorite movies and there are many movie scenes that are memorable to me but one stands out above all the rest. This particular scene comes from the movie Gladiator. Gladiator is about a favored Roman General Maximus who the Emperor Marcus Aurelius declares his heir over his own son to the throne before he dies. Obviously, this creates a conflict between Maximus and the Emperors son Commodus. Commodus has Maximus and his family condemned to death. Maximus is unable to save his family and he gives up when they are killed. He is then captured and forced to fight as a Gladiator. The particular scene that is memorable to me is when Maximus fights in the colosseum and wins the crowd over. Commodus comes out with his nephew and asks the brave gladiator to reveal himself to them and the stadium. As Commodus comes out, Maximus kneels to the ground and grabs an arrowhead to kill the Emperor. Commodus tells the Gladiator to stand up and take off his helmet and reveal himself. Maximus says, My name is gladiator and turns his back on the emperor. This angers Commodus and he asks again, reveal yourself. Maximus’s response is one of the most memorable scenes in the movie and why I picked this scene.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius,

Commander of the Armies of the North,

General of the Felix Legions,

Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius,

Father to murdered son

Husband to a murdered wife

And I will have my vengeance-in this life or the next.

This was probably the most memorable scenes in a movie I can think of. The emotion and drive behind Maximus to avenge his family and kill the emperor is unreal. Commodus, after realizing who the gladiator is, has his guards surround all of them. He was going to have him killed then and there if it was not for the crowd that chanted “Live…Live…Live” that convinced the emperor to side with the crowd and let him live. The scene then ends with the emperor Commodus and his guards marching out of the stadium while the crowd roared with applause for the gladiator.
